SAP PP List in Bill of Material

In SAP PP, a BOM is a structured list of all components (raw materials, sub-assemblies, assemblies, packaging materials, etc.) needed to manufacture a finished product or semi-finished product. For each component in the BOM you specify: the material number, the quantity required, and the unit of measure (UoM).

The BOM is often hierarchical: you can have a single-level BOM (where the finished product directly lists its immediate components) or a multi-level BOM (where sub-assemblies themselves have their own BOMs).

That “list” of components (with quantities etc.) is exactly what you see when you display a BOM, using transactions like CS03.

Prerequisites -

  • The finished good (or semi-finished good) material master must exist.
  • The plant (production plant) where the material will be produced must be defined.
  • The component materials (raw materials, sub-assemblies, etc.) must have their material masters defined.
